Kitchen Mode
A Go Cook! print original.
We ate a lot of this as a kid. I didn't know that Sloppy Joes normally have bell peppers until I left home.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- ½ c ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 can chicken gumbo soup
- 1 cup water
- 3-ounce can mushroom bits and pieces, drained
- salt and pepper
- optional, 6 sandwich rolls, toasted
Instructions
- Cook the beef and onions together until lightly browned, breaking up the meat.
- Add the remaining ingredients, except rolls.
- Cover, bring to a boil, drop temperature to simmer about 30 minutes.
- Serve on toasted rolls or other bread.

This is a recipe my mom Gracia Willis made a lot when we were little kids. I don't remember using the mushrooms when I made it as a later as a teen.
